Lif Coin

The Vikings were some of the most ferocious, fearless and badass pirates the world has ever known! Their tales are nothing short of legendary and we’ve kept that in mind when designing the first coin in our new series, the Lif Coin (Life Coin).

A lot of thought went into the design of this coin. In the last 2 years the Captain has lost 7 souls he held dear to him and it got him thinking about life, death and everything in between. In this time he began researching into many different theories, prophecies and legends surrounding life, which led him to the Norse legends of old.

The face of the coin at first seems straightforward, until you start looking closer. Then you discover the ancient Norse runes, the delicate lattice work, the intricate details of the Viking axes, the beautiful Celtic knots that bind everything together, their endless design representing birth, life, death and rebirth.

This motif is continued on the reverse side, where we see Yggdrasil, the Norse Tree of Life. Our Yggdrasil is gorgeous, using Celtic knots to represent the cycle of life again, but the Tree of Life is so much more. It connects everything. All the planets in our solar system, the realm of the Gods, the Underworld and is the source of new life. Did we mention that it’s also where Odin sacrificed himself to gain mystical knowledge? Oh yeah, it’s an immense source of power, wisdom and life.

But we didn’t stop there! Surrounding Yggdrasil is the infamous beast, the wolf Fenrir. Caught in an endless cycle of dragging the chains that bind him while waiting until Ragnarök; the end of the world, when he shall break his binding, devour the god Odin and destroy the Earth, before finally being defeated by Odin’s son, Vidarr.

So let's talk details! The Lif Coin is almost 6mm thick (!) and weighs in at a solid 1.5oz of solid brass that’s been given an antique gold finish and comes in your choice of either an Ox Blood Standard Edition slip (not shown) or an ultra limited Pirate Lord Edition featuring a gorgeous genuine green Lizard on the front and the legendary Japanese Wabi Sabi leather on the back (pictured). Only 46 total are available, including the 9 Pirate Lord Edition coins, so good luck and god speed!
